Holiday Road Trip Safety

Holiday Road Trip SafetyMillions of people around the world will be traveling this holiday season. To promote safe passage, the folks at DG Collision Center in Covina, California have assembled some tips to help road warriors arrive at their Christmas Road Trip Safety Tipsdestinations.

We encourage you to follow these tips to improve your 2019 travel experience:

  • Christmas Road Trip SafetyTake your vehicle to a mechanic for a safety inspection, to make sure everything is in working order. We recommend Genesis Automotive. They’re located close to DG Collision Center in Covina, California.
  • Map your route in advance.
  • Buckle up. Car accidents are the number one cause of death of people in America aged 1–54. Wearing a seat belt will reduce your risk of being injured or killed by 50%. Wrinkled clothes are a small price to pay for that kind of safety!Road Trip Safety Seat Belt
  • Familiarize yourself with the new safety standards for child passengers.
  • Stay up to date with the latest traffic information from your local DOT.
  • Take your time. Instead of rushing to your destination, enjoy the ride.
  • Keep valuables hidden from view so your car won’t attract thieves at pit stops.
  • Keep an emergency kit in your car. Check Ready.Gov for a list of items to include.
  • Buckle up in every seat, on every trip, no matter the distance.
  • Properly buckle up kids in the back seat. Use a secure car seat, booster, and/or seatbelt, depending on the child’s weight, height, and age.
  • Don’t drive while impaired by alcohol or drugs. Encourage others to follow suit.
  • Obey posted speed limits. But drive slower if road conditions warrant extra caution.
  • Drive free from distractions (like using a Smartphone or texting).Distracted Driving Road Trip Safety
  • Beware of drunk drivers. Protect yourself and your loved ones on the road by being vigilant about anything odd you witness as you drive. One way to guard against distracted drivers is to enter the left lane only when passing. In this case, if someone drifts from the other side of the road, you’ll be the first in line for a collision. Staying on the right side of the road should give you time to avoid drunk drivers.
