Few things are scarier than being involved in a car accident. The sights and sounds of aluminum, glass, and rubber crashing are enough to send chills up your spine. So, in honor of Halloween, we wanted to take this opportunity to highlight some of the scariest car crash stories we’ve ever seen onscreen.
Off-Road Warriors
When a car careens off the side of a road, the associated car accident damage is often severe. But one of the scariest off-road scenes occurs after the screen fades to black. Spoiler alert: at the end of the 1991 movie Thelma & Louise, the heroines drive their 1966 Thunderbird off the cliff, into the Grand Canyon. We don’t get to see the car after the crash. But we can assure you, the insurance company would have ruled it a total…beyond even the powers available to us at DG Collision.
Magnificent Car Accident Depictions
As an art form, the 2001 Tom Cruise movie, Vanilla Sky, went above and beyond. One of the main characters, Julie, played by Cameron Diaz, purposely causes a car accident so spectacular, it kills her and horribly disfigures Tom Cruise’s character, David. The car was a goner. But even more, destroyed is David’s entire life. For the damage it wreaks on the main character, the accident deserves a spot on our pantheon of magnificent onscreen crashes.
Totaled Vehicles
Although totaled cars appear in countless films, we hail The Fast & The Furious collection for totaling the most cars onscreen. In the Fastest Five, alone, totaled 260 cars! But the series does not hold the record for having killed the highest number of automobiles. That honor goes to Transformers 3, the Michael Bay vehicle which is said to have destroyed 532 cars.
Driverless Cars & Car Accidents
Although self-driving cars are said to be the future, nothing beats the crazy driverless car featured in the original (1990) version of Total Recall. Johnny Cab is, in a word, creepy. But the creepiest driverless car has to be Stephen King’s “Christine.” It isn’t the fact the car crashes that gives people the heebie-jeebies, but that it contorts itself back into mint condition. If your car can do this, that’s great. But the next best thing is to bring it to DG Collision. We won’t call on the Powers of Darkness to repair cars, but we can restore your beauty to near-mint condition using just the tools of the trade.
