Although you’ve heard about the Partridge in a Pear Tree, you may not be aware of another 12 Days that are important to those of us who work in the auto body field. We call it the “12 Days of Crashmas.” These are types of accidents that people encounter during the month of December. To avoid them, you need to be aware. And if you fail to take evasive actionand find yourself in a car accident this season, don’t worry. We will be happy to take care of your vehicle! Merry Crashmas!
Crashmas Accident in the Mall Parking Lot
These accidents usually result in minimal damage. They result from people rushing around, stressfully trying to get things done. When you are in a hurry on the road, accidents may ensue. If this happens to you, you’ll want to get your car back on the road before the New Year.
Ex-Boyfriend or Girlfriend jealously keys your car on Crashmas.
Since this a time when emotions run high, you could be the victim in such an event. When someone uses a key to scratch the finish of your car, the damage is usually cosmetic. If this happens to you, we will try to get your ex to pay for the repairs. And occasionally in such a case, we see a happy ending.
Mistletoe hanging from the rearview mirror
This Crashmas incident often appears in films featuring a Camaro or Fiero. The hero brings his auto for repair. He explains that he “was using the mistletoe, Bro.” In such a case, a totaled car emerges, while the mullet remains unharmed. When people ask us about the frequency of such events, we tell them that it occurs more times when the cassette tape player in the car contains a Journey cassette tape that won’t eject.
Griswald Temporary Blindness
If your neighbor decorates on a scale comparable to Christmas Vacation’s Clark W. Griswald, you could hit a mailbox or collide with a fence. In many such cases, the owner is blinded by Christmas displays on a house. When this is the case, the car often arrives in our shop covered in extraneous tinseland lights.
Attacked by a Salvation Army Santa Claus
If you’re attacked by someone who is ringing a bell on the corner, your car could end up covered with dents. The brass bell can transfer to body panels. The attack often also results in trails of loose change.
“Over the riverand through the woods.”
The bridge could give out on your way to grandmother’s house. Even amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, heavy water damage can take out the bridge you need to cross while en route to Grandmother’s House. When we see cars that have suffered this fate, they usually smell like eggnog.
New Car Gift Ribbon
Most people share the dream of being led outside on Christmas morning, blindfolded, to be told to open their eyes to see a giant red ribbon across the windshield of a brand new car. If this happens to you this year, remember to remove the ribbon before you head out. When people deliver their cars for repairs after forgetting to do so, we struggle to determine the damage until we remove all of the holiday wrapping. Unfortunately, we see a high related divorce rate with this type of accident. After repairs, such a car is no longer considered “new.”
The “You’ll Shoot your eye out” accident
If your neighbor kids get a BB or pellet gun, they could shoot through the windshield of your car. If this happens to you, rest assured we will try to get the parents to pay. But know in advance that this pretty much cancels Christmas for the guilty party.
The Ebenezer Scrooge Mobile
In such a case, the vehicle was not properly maintained because the owner is too cheap to ante up for repairs. In such a case, they all too often look for a miracle and want to cover it for the cost of a Bandaid. This often also occurs for people who refuse to sign a storage agreement and want to gift the car to a relative for tax reasons.
Santa’s Sleigh
If your car or truck is hit by an Amazon, UPS, or a FEDEX truck, know that the drivers are usually far too busy to wait for an estimate. They want to “just fix it fast.”
Slippery Slope
If you venture off to see the snow by taking a trip to Mt Baldy with bald tires, you may need to be towed in because you slipped off-road into a ditch. If this happens to you, rest assured we will have your back.
Got run over by a reindeer
More often, “I hit a deer,” results in a torn antler left in the car grille, and hoof damage to the windshield. Deer are heavy and can cause major damage.
